Survey of immersive tech knowledge platform could be good news for the Apple Vision Pro

A survey of the immersive technology knowledge platform Metamandrill.com, completed by 1,299 industry professionals and enthusiasts, could be good news for the Apple Vision Pro.

The study reveals significant trends in immersive tech interests, with education and training emerging as the primary focus for 61% of respondents, while showing strong interest in specialized hardware adoption ranging from 38% to 45%. Key findings from immersive technology research show interest in:

  • Education leads at 61% for professional and technical training.
  • Gaming and virtual worlds attract 51% for amusement.
  • Entertainment reaches 44% via immersive events.
  • Business processes at 43% drive workplace transformation.
  • Marketing at 42% boosts customer engagement.

“Our research demonstrates how immersive technologies could transform professional training and development,” says Martijn Barten, founder at Metamandrill.com. “Organizations are increasingly recognizing the potential of these tools for education and skill development.”

The survey shows a significant interest in specialized hardware. Mobile devices remain strong at 54%, with computer/console options following at 48%. Specialized hardware like VR (45%), mixed reality (44%), and AR headsets (38%) show substantial interest, reflecting growing acceptance of technology specifically designed for immersive experiences.

This aligns with market projections, as global shipments of AR and VR headsets are expected to grow from 6.7 million units in 2024 to 22.9 million by 2028, reflecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 36.3%, according to International Data Corporation (IDC).

“Our survey highlights a shift in how professionals engage with immersive technology,” notes Barten. “While mobile and traditional platforms remain strong, interest in specialized hardware is rising. This aligns with expected 2025/2026 releases from top brands, including the Samsung XR headset, Apple Vision Pro 2, Valve Index 2, and Meta’s expanding lineup, featuring Oakley-branded smart glasses.”
