Apple may have delayed its “more personalized” version of Sir with more Apple Intelligence features until next year, but the tech giant has been granted a patent that seems to regard future features for its personal intelligence assistant

About the patent

The patent, dubbed “Conversational Agent As Learning Aid,” generally relates to, well, conversational agents. In the patent Apple notes that a user device, such as a smartphone, tablet, or laptop or desktop computer, may include a conversational agent (e.g., expert system, artificial intelligence (AI) system, chat bot system, etc.). The conversational agent may be capable of performing a variety of useful tasks for a human user.

Apple’s patent involves various processes that consider the option of obtaining and utilizing a user’s personal information. For example, such personal information may be utilized in order to generate a response to a user focus indicator value using an electronic device.

However, Apple emphasizes that, to the extent such personal information is collected, such information should be obtained with the user’s informed consent. The user should have knowledge of and control over the use of their personal information, adds the tech giant.

Summary of the patent

Here’s Apple’s abstract of the patent: “Various implementations disclosed herein include devices, systems, and methods for generating a response to a user focus indicator value based on a user comprehension value characterizing a user’s association with the user focus indicator value. In some implementations, a method includes obtaining a user focus indicator value. A sequence of user voice inputs relating to the user focus indicator value is obtained.

“A user comprehension value characterizing an assessment of a user relative to the user focus indicator value is determined based on the user voice inputs. Based on a plurality of media content items that provide information about the user focus indicator value, a response to the user focus indicator value is synthesized that satisfies the user comprehension value. The response is outputted.”
