Apple Vision ProPatents

Apple patent filing involves a wild looking stabilizing support system for the Vision Pro

FIG. 1A illustrates a perspective view of a system for stabilizing a head-mountable device.

Apple has filed for a patent for “Support for Head-Mountable Device” that shows a crazy-looking stabilizer for the Vision Pro.

About the patent filing

Apple continually looks for new ways to make wearing the spatial computer more comfortable. This patent filing relates generally to head-mountable devices, and, more particularly, to systems for supporting head-mountable devices.

The Vision Pro has multiple outputs including ones for audio output and/or haptic feedback. A user may further interact with the head-mountable device by providing inputs for processing by one or more components of the head-mountable device. For example, the user can provide tactile inputs, voice commands, and other inputs while the device is mounted to the user’s head.

However, all this fiddling and touching the head-mounted display may make it a bit unstable on a user’s head. Apple’s patent involves stabilization features that support the Vision Pro to both facilitate and enhance movement during various activities in which a user is moving. The systems can include a case that engages the head-mountable device and provides a view to an external environment. The support provided by the system can provide the user wearing the head-mountable device with a wide range of movement (e.g., pan and tilt) while also guiding movement within the range, according to Apple.

Summary of the patent filing

Here’s Apple’s abstract of the patent filing: “Systems and devices of the present disclosure can include stabilization features that support the head-mountable device to both facilitate and enhance movement during capture. The systems can include a case that engages the head-mountable device and provides a view to an external environment. The support provided by the system can provide the user wearing the head-mountable device with a wide range of movement (e.g., pan and tilt) while also guiding movement within the range.”
