Apple has announced a new donation to the China Development Research Foundation to expand the rural teacher training program.
The company says its total donation to China’s public welfare undertakings since 2020 has reached 350 million yuan. These funds are used to strongly support related projects including the China Development Research Foundation, the China Rural Development Foundation, Zhejiang University, Tsinghua University and the China Green Carbon Foundation, according to Fang Jin, Secretary-General of the China Development Research Foundation.
Apple’s donations mainly focus on nationwide education, economic and labor development, rural community development, environmental protection and disaster relief projects, including teacher training, student programming and other skills training.
Since 2018, Apple has continuously cooperated with the China Development Research Foundation. This latest donation is a continuation of Apple’s long-term work to support students and teachers in communities across China and help them open the door to new opportunities with the help of technology.
Apple’s new donation will help the China Development Research Foundation expand its “Zhihui Gardener” project to benefit more students and teachers in rural communities. Apple donated 50 million yuan in 2022 and launched the “Zhihui Gardener” project, which aims to provide teaching tools and skills training for primary and junior high school teachers in rural areas of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Guizhou Province to help them integrate science and technology and digital skills into the classroom.
Through targeted training, the educators of the pilot schools of the “Zhihui Gardener” project have improved their ability in digital literacy, information technology and applied innovative method development courses. Now they are using iPad and other tools to teach.
With the support of Apple, the “Zhihui Gardener” project of the China Development Research Foundation will cover 30 counties in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Guizhou Province, benefiting 120,000 teachers. In the next two years, this new donation will create more learning opportunities for this group, says Jin.
