How to use the ‘Keep Downloaded’ option in iOS 18, iPadOS

iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia added a “Keep Downloaded” option when browsing items in iCloud, allowing you to designate files and folders that should remain permanently available locally on their device.

To use the “Keep Downloaded” option in iOS 18 or iPadOS 18, open the Files app, long-press on a file or folder you want to keep downloaded, and then select “Keep Downloaded” from the context menu that appears.

This will ensure the file remains on your device even when your storage is low and iCloud is optimizing space. Once a file is set to “Keep Downloaded”, a small gray iCloud icon may appear next to it in the Files app.
