How to use the Apple Vision Pro with the GeForce NOW cloud gaming platform

On January 7, it was announced that Apple Vision Pro is getting support for NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW cloud gaming platform. In this article, we look at how to take advantage of this.

GeForce Now (stylized as GeForce NOW) is the brand used by the company for its cloud gaming service. It purportedly has over 2,000 games.

To use NVIDIA GeForce NOW on an Apple Vision Pro, you should:

° Create a GeForce NOW account.

° Connect to a 5GHz WiFi network.

° Pair a supported Bluetooth gamepad (such as a Microsoft Xbox One or Sony DualShock 4 controller).

° Go to the GeForce NOW website in Safari on the Vision Pro. (GeForce NOW version 2.0.70 and later is required).

° Adjust the picture quality settings in GeForce NOW.

Now you can start playing games; over 100 are free, others require payment. You’ll be able to stream games in 4K at 120 FPS. You can play games from your Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store, Microsoft Store, EA’s store, or GOG library.

However, there are some things you should note. GeForce NOW requires your latency to be less than 80ms from an NVIDIA data center, but NVIDIA recommends less than 40ms. You can run the in-app network test from the GeForce NOW app on your Mac, Windows machine, or mobile device to measure your latency.

You’ll need a 5GHz WiFi network connection with these requirements:

WiFi Connection (a 5 GHz WiFi connection is recommended)

  • 15 Mbps when streaming HD resolutions at up to 60 FPS (e.g. 1280×720)
  • 25 Mbps when streaming FHD resolutions at 60 FPS (e.g. 1920×1080)
  • 35 Mbps when streaming QHD* resolutions at 60 FPS (e.g. 2560×1440)
  • 40 Mbps for 4K* resolutions at up to 60 FPS (e.g. 3840×2160).
  • These resolutions must be manually enabled from the GeForce NOW streaming settings

When it comes to gamepads, you’ll need to use the Apple Vision Pro gestures in order to login, as the gamepad does not work for the login screen, send feedback, and other options in the GeForce NOW app. Also, Vision Pro gestures aren’t supported while streaming GeForce NOW.  You must use a supported gamepad to play GeForce NOW games on Apple Vision Pro.

You’ll also find that your connected mouse and keyboard don’t work with GeForce NOW. You can only use a physical keyboard and mouse to navigate the app.
