China’s smartphone sales declined 3.2% year-over-year (YoY) in the fourth quarter (Q4) 2024, marking the only quarter in 2024 to see a YoY decline, according to Counterpoint’s Market Pulse Service.
During the quarter, China-based Huawei took the top spot, followed by Xiaomi (also China-based) and Apple. iPhone sales dipped 18.2% year-over-year. Apple had 15.5% of China’s smartphone market in 2024 compared to 17.9% in 2023.
Commenting on the market dynamics, Associate Director Ethan Qi said, “The country’s smartphone market saw a rebound in the first three quarters of the year, with positive YoY growth each quarter. However, momentum began to slow in Q4 as consumers adopted cautious spending behavior.”
