How to use the updated Messages app in iPadOS 18

iPadOS 18’s Messages sports new animated text effects, redesigned Tapbacks that expand to include any emoji or sticker, and new text formatting options, including bold, underline, and italics.

Messages also introduces the ability to schedule messages to send at a later time, helping users stay fully in control of when and how they are communicating with their contacts. To format text, select the text you want to format, use the formatting options in the toolbar above the keyboard, and explore the new text effects and Tapback options within the message bubble.

Animated text effects: Add dynamic effects like “Big,” “Small,” “Shake,” “Nod,” “Explode,” “Ripple,” “Bloom,” and “Jitter” to specific words or phrases. With Enhanced Tapbacks, you react to messages with any emoji or sticker as a Tapback reaction.

To access these features:

° To format text: While composing a message, select the text you want to format and use the formatting options that appear in the toolbar above the keyboard.

° To add text effects: Select the text and choose a text effect from the available options.

° To use Tapbacks: Tap and hold on a message to access the Tapback menu and select an emoji or sticker.

° To schedule a message: Compose your message, then tap the “Schedule” option to select a delivery time.
