Wireless charging smartphone shipments are expected to rise 14.2% year-over-year (YoY )in 2024 while the share of wireless charging smartphones in the overall smartphone market is projected to surpass 31% in 2024 and reach nearly half of the market by 2029, according to Counterpoint Research.
Apple currently dominates the reverse wireless charging smartphone market as it has hardware support for reverse wireless charging on all iPhone 12 models and later. However, Apple has yet to fully unlock the potential of the reverse wireless charging feature as it is currently only limited to charging the MagSafe battery pack, according to Counterpoint.
As the entire iPhone lineup supports the feature, Apple is expected to maintain a modest but steady growth, leveraging its dominance. However, Counterpoint says the increasing adoption from Samsung and Chinese manufacturers like Huawei, Xiaomi have spurred market expansion, gradually eroding Apple’s market share.
Wireless charging smartphones are seeing increasing adoption as the wireless charging feature enhances user convenience and serves as a key marketing strategy for smartphone manufacturers, particularly for flagship models, according to Counterpoint Research.
Counterpoint says the share of reverse wireless charging in the wireless charging smartphone market is expected to grow from 95.6% in 2023 to almost 100% by 2026, indicating its near-universal adoption in wireless charging smartphones. From 2023 to 2025, reverse wireless charging smartphone shipments are projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 18%, predicts the research group.
