It’s time once again for the Apple World Today gang to make our Apple-related predictions for 2025. So let’s go….
Dennis Sellers’ Predictions
° Rumors say that Apple will release a new Magic Mouse in 2026. However, I think we’ll see one before the end of 2025.
° We’ll see the rumored Apple Vision Pro 2 released late next year with an M5 processor, a slightly lighter design, and perhaps a lower price tag.
° The rumored “iPhone 16 Air” will be priced lower than most pundits have predicted as its slim design will cause it lack some features that Apple’s more powerful smartphones lack.
° The MacBook Pro and other Macs will get M5 processors before year’s end; however, I think, as with the M4, the iPad Pro will get it first.
° That said, iPadOS 19 will still disappoint folks like me that would love to use an iPad Pro in lieu of a traditional laptop.
° The long-awaited Mac Studio update will finally arrive in fall 2025 and sport an M5 Ultra processor.
° There’s be no iMac bigger than 24 inches released in 2025 — and probably never.
° Apple will discontinue the AirPods Max.
° We’ll finally get a successor to the Studio Pro Display — a $1,999 Studio Display Pro. It will support ProMotion technology for refresh rates up to 120MHz in addition to a mini-LED pane.
° We’ll see a HomePod with a screen in time for the holidays.
° Apple TV+ will continue to (slowly) gain market share in this streaming arena. And Apple will introduce a lower-priced, ad-supported plan.
Steve Sande’s Predictions
- Apple’s health initiatives will get a boost in 2025 and beyond as the new government administration gets rid of unnecessary or overly restrictive regulations that keep the company’s devices tied up in red tape. This includes making it possible for recent Apple Watches to continuously monitor blood oxygen levels, something that has been promised but was held up by the FDA. Apple will also announce new versions of the over-the-counter hearing aid capabilities of the AirPod Pro 2 that allow those with moderate to severe hearing loss to use the low cost ($249) device rather than pay $5,000 – $7,000 for traditional hearing aids.
- Apple will provide a way for anyone to capture, view, and share spatial videos without using the Vision Pro. The capture capability will be available to anyone with an Apple device with built-in LIDAR. Viewing will be possible through the Photos app on any Apple device, and for those without Apple devices, Apple will make a web-based spatial image viewer.
- There will not be a folding iPhone (“iPhone Fold”), as Apple will not find a way to create a folding display with the high quality, resolution, and durability of the present iPhones.
- Apple will reduce the pricing for the 6TB and 12TB iCloud Drive plans to $25 and $50 per month respectively, taking advantage of decreasing mass storage costs.
- A camera will finally be built into the next-generation Apple Watch, to be used for lower-resolution imaging as well as Face ID.
Marty Edwards’ Predictions
New Apple products are always one of the more exciting events each year for me, and I have no doubt that 2025 will provide us with some exciting new products. Some of my predictions for 2025 are as follows:
Almost Guaranteed
New iPhone – It is easy to predict a new iPhone. It happens every year, usually in September, just in time for the back-to-school crowd. It will probably be called the iPhone 17, with a Pro and ProMax probably the same sizes and storage as this year. There will be an upgraded CPU and GPU. The big push for the new iPhones will be AI. That will probably be the main selling point.
iOS 19 and a new Mac OS – Apple will most likely introduce iOS 19 in June at WWDC and release it with the new iPhone in September. The new Mac OS with some California name will be announced as well at WWDC and released in October. I feel both OS updates will focus on security and stability more than new features, although Apple Intelligence will be a primary focus.
Probably
Mac Updates – There will probably be MacBook updates, as well as the Mac Studio, which has yet to receive the M4 chip.
There will probably be incremental updates to the iPad. Since it already has an M4 chip, and the iPad Mini was updated last year, I feel updates, if any, will be small.
Any Apple Watch update will be small, with perhaps a small update to the processing power and battery life.
I do feel there will be an Apple TV update since it’s been a few years since the last one. The latest Apple TV has a 1 Gb ethernet port, but with 8K becoming more popular, Apple might offer the option of a 10 Gb port as they do with the Mac Mini.
I feel there will be at least an announcement of some AI product for the home. Perhaps an upgraded HomePod or iPad type device that can go on a wall.
There are also rumors of a new Apple Mouse and keyboard. I think a new mouse with wireless charging is possible.
Probably Not
I don’t think we’ll see a Mac mini update this year since there was just a major redesign with the M4 processor.
I would love to see Apple get more into networking products such as switches and routers, but I don’t think they will go this route and focus more on products that can leverage Apple Intelligence.
Though not a physical product, I would like for Apple to offer Time Machine backups on Apple servers. With the availability of 1 Gigabit networks it would be easy to keep backup to Apple’s own servers.
Regardless of what Apple does or does not bring in 2025, it will be exciting. It always is.
