Plugable has introduced what it says is the world’s first 10-port USB-C charger with intelligent power allocation and priority-based charging – the PS-10CC.
This cutting-edge charger is designed to meet the needs of a wide range of users, from tech enthusiasts and families to small businesses, educational institutions, and travelers, according to Plugable Chief Technical Officer Bernie Thompson.
In addition to prioritizing charging, the PS-10CC also prioritizes its environmental impact, he adds. This 10-port charging device doesn’t include a typical DC barrel power supply. Instead, by allowing customers to use a USB-C charger from a laptop or similar device that they already own (18W minimum required), Plugable is able to reduce the overall shipping size and weight of the unit, reducing fuel and emissions associated with shipping. More importantly, it reduces e-waste, a growing concern associated with the often redundant USB-C chargers included with many devices, Thompson says
Intelligent Power Allocation
The PS-10CCemploys real-time current sensing technology, allowing it to intelligently distribute power across all connected devices in priority order from left to right. Whether a power-hungry laptop or a smaller gadget like a smartwatch, the charger dynamically adjusts its power output to deliver the most efficient charge possible.
“This real-time adjustment ensures that devices receive optimal power based on their individual needs, preventing overheating or energy waste while maintaining high charging speeds across all 10 ports in priority order,” says Thompson. “By taking advantage of priority charging features, users can keep their daily drivers like laptops and tablets in the leftmost ports to keep them topped up and ready to go, while adding lower priority devices further down the line to charge overnight—without overburdening the power source.
Priority-Based Charging
Another feature of the PS-10CC is its priority-based charging capability. The charger is programmed to prioritize devices connected to the leftmost ports, ensuring that the most important devices—like smartphones or laptops—are charged first. As those devices reach full battery, the charger automatically shifts the excess power to the next set of connected gadgets, ensuring the fastest overall charge time for everything plugged in.
For families, the PS-10CC serves as a central charging hub, helping to keep devices organized in busy households. Parents can charge their smartphones, laptops, and tablets alongside their children’s devices without worrying about cluttered charging stations or limited outlets, Thompson says.
“Charge indicator LEDs are especially useful in small offices for streamlining charging efforts,” he adds. “Each port on the PS-10CC is equipped with a status light: solid blue means the device on that port is fully charged, blinking blue shows the device is currently charging, and purple indicates the port is available. The device’s safety features protect valuable company assets.”
The 10-Port PS-10CC USB-C Charger has launched on Kickstarter on October 22, 2024, with shipping expected in January 2025. “Early bird” pricing is $59, and a Kickstarter Special is $69. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the USB-Charger is expected to be $99. You can visit the Kickstarter link here.
