No, Apple isn’t going to buy Intel; why would it?

Sigh. Despite the rumor mill (again), Apple isn’t going to buy Intel. Why would it?

Sigh. Despite the rumor mill (again), Apple isn’t going to buy Intel. Why would it?

According to the YouTube channel “Moore’s Law is Dead” and its presenter Tom S. — as noted by AppleInsider — Apple could be coming back to Intel. It just wouldn’t be coming to buy some processors, it would be coming to buy the company.

In his defense, Tom S. notes that this is a rumor with little backing. Apple did indeed buy Intel’s modem division back in 2019 and is working on making its own in-house modem.

However, Apple is doing just fine making its own Apple Silicon chips. There’s absolutely no reason for the company to go back to Intel processors — or buy Intel itself.

  • Doesn’t Apple design its ARM (Apple Silicon) chips and has TSMC manufacture the chips? Does Intel design and manufacture chips? Recall that Intel has several chip fabs in the USA. Can Intel manufacture ARM chips? If so – and I don’t know – but if so – seems that Apple ‘might’ consider buying a US company to manufacture Apple designed ARM chips in the US or other countries – outside of China, in an attempt to protect its business in light of the impending Chinese takeover of Taiwan and the resulting interruption in Chinese production of Apple products.
