How to scan text and documents in iOS 18’s Notes app with your iPhone’s camera

In iOS 18’s updated Notes app, you can scan text and documents using your iPhone’s camera. Let’s look at how to do this.

How to scan text into a note

You can insert scanned text using the camera (on supported models; in supported languages).

  1. Go to the Notes app pastedGraphic.png on your iPhone.
  2. In a note, tap pastedGraphic_1.png, then tap Scan Text.
  3. Position iPhone so that the text appears within the camera frame.
  4. Drag or use grab points to select text, then tap Insert.

How to scan a document into a note

  1. Go to the Notes app pastedGraphic.png on your iPhone.

  1. In a note, tap pastedGraphic_1.png, then tap Scan Documents.
  2. Position iPhone so that the document page appears on the screen; iPhone automatically captures the page.
  3. To manually capture the page, tap pastedGraphic_2.png or press a volume button. To turn the flash on or off, tap pastedGraphic_3.png.
  4. Scan additional pages, then tap Save when you’re done.
    The document is saved as a PDF in the note.
