Apple wants to make it easy to create a guest user Persona on the Vision Pro.

Apple wants to make it easy to create a guest user Persona on the Vision Pro. The company has filed for a patent (number US 20240331294 A1) for “Rendering of a Guest User’s Face for External Display.”

About the patent

A Persona, as described by Apple, is “a dynamic, natural representation of your face and hand movements that allows others to see you while you’re using Apple Vision Pro for FaceTime and other videoconferencing apps.” This process also sets up EyeSight, which reveals your eyes on the front of your Apple Vision Pro.

The main user of a Vision Pro is prompted to set up a Persona. However, as the spatial computer has a Guest Mode, Apple apparently wants to make it easier for a Vision Pro-using “guest” to create his/her own Personal while using the device.

Summary of the patent

Here’s Apple’s abstract of the patent: “Various implementations disclosed herein include devices, systems, and methods that present a view of a device user’s face portion, that would otherwise be blocked by an electronic device positioned in front of the face, on an outward-facing display of the user’s device. The view of the user’s face portion may be configured to enable observers to see the user’s eyes and facial expressions as if they were seeing through a clear device at the user’s actual eyes and facial expressions. Various techniques are used to provide views of the user’s face that are realistic, that show the user’s current facial appearance, and/or that present the face portion with 3D spatial accuracy, e.g., each eye appearing to be in its actual 3D position.”
