Video games need to be more accessible for everyone

There are thousands of video games and dozens of ways to play them nowadays. However, we rarely consider the accessibility of games, and what that means to people who need these accommodations.

So how can we make video games more accessible?

“Video games need to be created to be accessible for all gamers. Things like customizable controls, text-to-speech and speech-to-text, subtitles and closed captioning, better visual aids, more difficulty settings options and more inclusive design choices can make the experience smoother and better for all players,” says Chief CX Innovation Officer at Arise Gaming Jonathan Shroyer.

Video games need to be more accessible for everyone, and the gaming industry has made progress as a whole, but there is still room for improvement, he adds.

“Video game companies need to prioritize the player’s experience. This also comes down to the accessibility of a game or console. So many companies want the best graphics or the best storyline, which are both important to the experience, but more gaming companies need to focus on creating a gaming experience that is accessible to all gamers,” Shroyer explains.
