Apple patent involves a table system for vehicles

Apple may have canceled its Apple Car project, but the company continues to be granted patents for automotive technology. The latest is number US 12065067 B1 for “Movable Support Surfaces” in a vehicle.

About the patent

Basically, the patent involves movable tables in a car, so I assume it’s targeted to large vehicles, such as vans and SUVs. According to the patent, tables, such as tray tables, may be manually movable between a stored position (e.g., folded up) and an in-use position (e.g., folded down). Such tables may be moved according to the desired position of a user.

Summary of the patent

Here’s Apple’s abstract of the patent: “A support surface includes a table top, moving portions, base portions, and sensors. The moving portions are configured to move the table top in multiple degrees of freedom. Each moving portion is configured to move the table top in a degree of freedom and prevent movement of the table top in other degrees of freedom. The base portions are coupled to the moving portions and are configured to support the moving portions. The sensors are configured to receive a user input and communicate the user input to the moving portions so that the moving portions move the table top based upon the user input.”
