Black Friday is just a few weeks away and it’s traditionally one of the biggest days for electronics sales in the U.S. Roughly half of Americans say they plan to buy a new device during the upcoming sales and a new nationwide survey by ARRIS finds that:
- Nearly 1-in-5 (18%) plan on gifting electronics this holiday season
- 2-in-5 worry about supply chain issues impacting the holiday season
- 71% are worried about inflation’s impact on tech products
As for what people want in their technology, 73% want better battery life, 58% are looking for more durable portable electronics, and 40% want more lightweight electronics.
ARRIS — a company that “empowers the world’s top brands to produce smarter, lighter, stronger, and more sustainable products at scale” — says consumers are ready to drop some big bucks to get those new features with nearly half planning on spending more than US$500 on new technology in 2023, and 14% ready to spend anywhere between $1,000-$2,000.
As for purchasing, many Americans are doing their homework before swiping their credit cards. In fact, 91% trust electronics reviews. Among the 96% who research before buying electronics, 93% read consumer reviews, 70% look up news and tech articles, 41% find opinions on social media, and 19% talk to an expert at a store. Many people are not only researching, but taking their time before purchasing.
