Brazil says Apple can’t sell iPhones without a power brick

Apple has filed an appeal with the Brazilian regulator Cade against a lawsuit accusing the App Store of having anti-steering rules.

Brazilian’s Justice Ministry has suspended the sales of iPhones without a power brick and fined Apple $2.3M bill, reports Brazilian publication g1 (as noted by 9to5Mac). However, the fine won’t be applied IF Apple suspends the power brick-less sales of iPhones.

This isn’t the first brush-up between the tech giant and the Brazilian government over the issue. In March 2021, Brazil’s consumer protection foundation, Procon filed Apple R$ 10,546,442.48 (approximately US$1.9 million) for selling iPhones without a charger.

In addition, Procon-SP accused the company of misleading advertising, of selling devices with factory defects, of maintaining abusive clauses in the contract with consumers and of not having repaired a product that was still within the warranty period.
