Musings from Dennis: goodbye, Xfinity cable TV

This is my (mostly) weekly column in which I discuss whatever’s on my mind Sometimes it will have nothing to do with Apple. This week it kinda does.

For years, our family (and my home office) has had a monthly subscription to Comcast/Xfinity for their cable TV/Internet/landline bundle. No more. I’ve pulled the plug on cable TV.

The final straw came this week when my Xfinity bill jumped by almost $40. I also noticed that some add-on channels had “appeared” with no warning.

So I ditched the Xfinity cable TV service and cut my monthly bill in half. Heck, I could subscribe to almost all the streaming services and still pay less than Xfinity wanted for cable TV.

I’m still keeping Xfinity Internet (it’s my only choice) and phone/service (for now).

I’m not the only one going this route. The Hollywood Reporter notes that streaming services hit a fifth consecutive high in their share of all TV use in July — and for the first time, ranked as the most watched platform across the television landscape.

So goodbye, Xfinity Cable TV. You won’t be missed.

Help a buddy out

If you’d like to help support AWT (and make my life easier),  consider becoming a patron. We offer at least three patron-exclusive posts each week. You can start at only $2 per month (though $5/month gets you the exclusives).

Have a great weekend.
