The Europe smartphone market declined by 11% year-over-year (YoY) and 13% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) to 40 million units in quarter two (Q2) 2022, the lowest quarterly total since Q2 2020, according to Counterpoint Research. However, it was (mostly) good news for Apple’s iPhone.
Counterpoint Research says a deteriorating macro climate and geopolitical uncertainly were the main constraints on demand. The research group adds that Apple and Samsung managed to grow shipments and market share YoY, although both declined QoQ due to their withdrawal from the Russian market.
Counterpoint says that Apple grew both shipments and market share year-on-year in Europe largely due to the launch of the 5G-enabled iPhone SE. However, it declined quarter-on-quarter.
Apple now has 24% of the European smartphone market, up from 21% in the year-ago quarter. Samsung has 32% of the European smartphone market, up from 27% in the year-ago quarter.
Xiaomi and OPPO, hit by China lockdowns, suffered double digit YoY declines in their respective shipments. realme continued its European expansion with double digit YoY shipment growth in Q2 2022
