Apple Watch Pro may not work with older Watch bands

Persistent rumors about a new 47mm Apple Watch for pro athletes indicate that the new device may require a new series of Watch bands. The Apple Watch Pro should appear at the September 7th “Far Out” event alongside an Apple Watch Series 8. The Pro series design allegedly features a flat edge design and an all-new band design.

As with most rumors, take this with a very large grain of salt. This came from Chinese Weibo leaker UnclePan, who also predicted that the Apple Watch Series 7 would have an incompatible band. Current Apple Watches have a portrait display; UnclePan’s rumor calls for a square design.

Both the Apple Watch Series 8 and the new Pro model will run watchOS 9, currently in beta with other Apple operating systems.
