Apple lays off some contract-based recruiters as its reins in hiring, spending

Apple has laid off many of its contract-based recruiters in the past week as the company limits hiring and spending, reports Bloomberg.

These recruiters, numbering about 100, are spread out across the tech giant’s offices in California, Texas, and Singapore. MacRumorsnotes that they’re not full-time Apple employees but are contractors that typically receive less pay and less attractive benefits compared to full-time staff.

Last month it was reported that Apple Inc. plans to slow hiring and spending growth next year in some divisions to cope with a potential economic downturn. Bloomberg News, quoting unnamed “people with knowledge of the matter,” said “the decision stems from a move to be more careful during uncertain times, though it isn’t a companywide policy.” Purportedly, the changes won’t affect all teams.

Bloomberg News added that “Apple is still planning an aggressive product launch schedule in 2023 that includes a mixed-reality headset, its first major new category since 2015.”
