The Elec reports that LG Display is ramping up to supply micro-OLED display panels for the second generation of Apple’s mixed reality headset. This is interesting since there’s been no info from the tech giant about the first generation of “Apple Glasses.”
From The Elec report: Cupertino is expected to use Sony’s MicroOLED panel for the screen on its first MR device while the outer screen, or an ‘indicator’, which will be a regular OLED panel, will be provided by LG Display. Apple’s new device is expected to launch during the first half of next year. LG Display is aiming to supply the MicroOLED panel on the iPhone maker’s follow-up to its MR device.
About Apple Glasses
When it comes to Apple Glasses, such a device will almost certainly arrive in mid-to-late 2023. It will be a head-mounted display. Or may have a design like “normal” glasses. Or it may be eventually be available in both. The Apple Glasses may or may not have to be tethered to an iPhone to work. Other rumors say that Apple Glasses could have a custom-build Apple chip and a dedicated operating system dubbed “rOS” for “reality operating system.”
