The U.S. Court of Appeals has affirmed a previous Patent and Trademark Office decision in a patent lawsuit against Apple by Corephotonics, “handing the tech giant a win,” according to “AppleInsider.”
Corephotonics, an Israeli maker of dual-lens camera technologies for smartphones, filed a lawsuit against Apple in November 2017, alleging that the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 Plus infringe upon four of its patents. The patents relate to dual-lens camera technologies appropriate for smartphones, including optical zoom and a mini telephoto lens assembly.\In October 2018, a California federal judge ruled that Corephotonics’ complaints “more than simply” alleged that Apple knew about the Israeli startup’s lens technology patents and infringed them in several iPhones.
AppleInsider says that, in its decision Monday, the Federal Circuit said that the patent’s claims were obvious based on a previous U.S. patent, or the patent and a paper titled “Poly Optics: A Manufacturer’s Perspective on the Factors That Contribute to Successful Programs.”
