With Apple almost certain to introduce new MacBook Pros at Monday’s “Unleashed” event, I expect macOS Monterey to be out of beta testing and available for download next week. If not on Monday, then before week’s end.
Probably the biggest features to be coming to Macs with Monterey are:
- A redesigned Safari browser with Tab Groups
- Shortcuts on the Mac, replacing (eventually) Automator
- QuickNotes
- Focus
- FaceTime with Spatial Audio, Voice Isolation, Wide Spectrum, and Portrait Mode
- SharePlay to share experiences during FaceTime calls (though it won’t be available in the first non-beta version of Monterey)
- Shared With You to highlight items others share with you
- Universal Control, allowing a Mac keyboard and mouse/trackpad to control an iPad (though it won’t be available in the first non-beta version of Monterey)
- AirPlay to Mac (“Sherlocking” a number of third-party apps)
Apple will hold the virtual “Unleashed” event, on Monday, Oct. 18, at 10 am (Pacific). You can view the event online at apple.com or via the Apple TV app.
