Analyst: upcoming MacBook Pro revamp will try adoption of mini-LED displays

In a note to clients — as noted by MacRumors — analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the inclusion of mini-LED displays in the upcoming MacBook Pros will spur the entire industry to adopt the tech.

The M1X MacBook Pros are expected arrive in November. The upcoming laptops are expected to have a major redesign, run on Apple Silicon (M1 chips), and sport mini-LED displays. The mini-LED displays will likely use 10,000 mini-LEDs and will be comparable to OLED screens.

“We believe that MacBooks, not iPads, mainly drive Mini LED panel shipments,” Kuo says. “MacBook shipments have not grown much in the past few years. However, we expect MacBook shipments to grow significantly by 20% YoY, or more in 2021 and 2022, due to the adoption of Mini LED panels, Apple Silicon, and all-new designs.”
