PSA: no, Apple’s tech support isn’t calling you about your iCloud account

Be warned: I’ve received a half-dozen phone messages on my  home phone claiming to be Apple. They say my iCloud account has been hacked and give me a number to call so I can give them my security settings.

If you receive such a call, DON’T ANSWER. It’s a scam.

Apple will never call you. If they do have to suspend your account for security reasons they won’t tell you, they will wait for you to find out and contact them, so that you can be sure you you are talking to.

In my case, all the numbers were local (615 area code), which tipped me off immediately. Apple has retail stores, but no corporate office, in the Nashville/Davidson County area.

By the way, one number from “Apple” came from “David Bunt.” Go figure.
