Bloomberg reported in January that Apple is working on a successor to the current Mac Pro that will feature an Intel processor rather than an Apple silicon chip. A new report says a 10-core Intel i9 Mac Pro is mentioned in new macOS code, notes MacRumors. The switch to an i9 chip would mean a move away from Intel Xeons.
The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) says the rumor makes sense. After all, Apple said its transition to Apple silicon, which began this past November, will take at least two years, and the highest-end, professional Mac Pro is the most likely candidate to be one of the last Macs to get updated. For the eventual high-end Apple silicon chip, Bloomberg reports that Apple is testing chips with as many as 32 high performance cores.
