Notable apps and updates: May 5

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

macOS

Smile has announced PDFpen and PDFpenPro 13, a new version of its all-purpose PDF editing tool for macOS. 

With it, users can easily add signatures, text, and images, make changes and correct typos, OCR scanned docs, fill out forms, and more. Version 13 introduces an updated user interface, improved highlighting, MRC compression customization, and for Pro users, the ability to replace Table of Contents entries.

PDFpen and PDFpenPro 13 require macOS 10.14 (Mojave) or later. Demo versions are available. Full versions of PDFpen and PDFpenPro are available for purchase on Apple’s Mac App Store. PDFpen is also available via subscription from Setapp.

PDFpen retails for US$79.95, and PDFpenPro for $129.95. Office Pack licenses start at $249.95 for PDFpen (5 users) and $374.95 for PDFpenPro (5 users). Upgrades from earlier single-user versions of either application are $35, and free for users who purchased on or after January 1, 2021. Upgrades from any previous single-user version of PDFpen to PDFpenPro 13 are $50. Upgrade pricing for Office Packs is available in Smile’s web store.

iOS

Lickability has released Scorecard, a new iOS app for scorekeeping in your favorite games. 

It allows you to enter the name of the game, add players, and start playing. As points are earned, the scoreboard updates instantly to show who’s winning. 

Scoreboard requires iOS/iPadOS 13 or higher. It costs $4.99 and is available at the App Store.

Knights of San Franciscoa text-driven RPG in which a young necromancer explores what remains of the ancient city of San Francisco – has launched on the Apple App Store. 

Raise the dead, find your way through the ruins, and experience dynamic combat through Natural Language Generation (NLG) in this minimalist, black-and-white RPG. It costs $2.99.
