Notable apps and updates: May 21

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

macOS

Bombich Software has released version 6 of Carbon Copy Cloner, an update of its backup program and Time Machine alternative.

It offers the ability to make bootable backups on both Intel and M1 Macs. Other new features include: a rebuilt filer copier, faster backup; a redesigned interface with Dark Mode; a snapshot navigator; CCC Dashboard (a new menubar app); task preview; and more.

Carbon Copy Cloner costs US$39.99 for a personal and household license, or a commercial, single computer license. CCC 5 users get a 50% discount off that price, while CCC 4 users are being offered a 25% discount. CCC 5 owners who purchased the app after Feb. 18, 2021, are eligible for a free upgrade. A 30-day trial of the software is also available on the Bombich website.

The software also allows you to extract the text out of a PDF and save it as RTF, TXT or HTML. Additionally, users can export individual pages or the entire document to a PNG, JPEG, TIFF, and other image formats.
