Laptop sales saw 81% year-on-year shipment growth, according to a new report by Strategy Analytics. And Apple’s Mac did even better than the industry average, growing 94% year-over-year.
Work-from-home demand and the notebook computer upgrade cycle were the main driving factors for commercial demand, while the consumer segment contributed with strong e-learning and gaming activity from home in the first quarter, according to Strategy Analytics. All of this occurred despite supply chain shortages, meaning that there is still pent-up demand going forward in 2021, adds the research group.
Apple sold 5.7 million Mac laptops in the first quarter of 2021. That compares to 2.9 million in the first quarter of 2020. Apple now has 8.4% of the global laptop market, trailing Lenovo (23.9%), HP (22.6%), and Dell (14.6%).
