Tablets had an outstanding first quarter of 2021 (1Q21) with 55.2% year-over-year growth and shipments totaling 39.9 million units, according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker.
The research group says that growth of this magnitude has not been seen since the third quarter of 2013 when the tablet market grew by 56.9% year-over-year. And Apple’s iPad continues to dominate the market.
Apple shipped 12.7 million units in 1Q21 compared to 7.7 million units in the year-ago quarter, seeing growth of 64.3%. That gives Apple 31.7% of the table market. The others in the top five, with their respective market share, are Samsung (20%), Lenovo (9.4%), Amazon (8.7%), and Huawei (2.7%).
