Rumor: MacBook Air with M1 successor, Mac Pro with Apple Silicon coming this year

According to Bloomberg, a redesigned MacBook Pro is expected to debut as soon as early this summer “followed by a revamped MacBook Air.”

“For a redesigned, higher-end MacBook Air planned for as early as the end of the year, Apple is planning a direct successor to the M1 processor,” Mark Gurman writes. “That chip, codenamed Staten, will include the same number of computing cores as the M1 but run faster. It will also see the number of graphics cores increase from seven or eight to nine or 10. Apple is also planning an update to the low-end 13-inch MacBook Pro with that same chip.”

Speaking of the MacBook Air, the update will feature a completely new design and come in a range of colors like the 24-inch iMac, according to leaker Jon Prosser.

Gurman also says that Apple is working on a 40-core Mac Pro with an Apple-made chip. He’s probably right, though his prognosis goes against a rumor that the next Mac Pro would be the last Mac to sport an Intel chip. Finally, Gurman says that an updated Mac mini is also in the works.
