Hello, goodbye: Apple fires just-hired ex-Facebook product manager

Apple has fired Antonio García Martínez, an ex-Facebook product manager whom the company just hired, after employees circulated a petition noting he authored a controversial book about Silicon Valley where he expressed misogynistic views on women, The Verge reports.

“We are deeply concerned about the recent hiring of Antonio García Martínez,” employees wrote in the petition. “His misogynistic statements in his autobiography — such as ‘Most women in the Bay Area are soft and weak, cosseted and naive despite their claims of worldliness, and generally full of shit’ (further quoted below this letter) — directly oppose Apple’s commitment to Inclusion & Diversity.”

More than 2,000 employees signed the petition before it was published by The Verge.

The book in question is 2016’s “Chaos Monkeys: Obscene Fortune and Random Failure in Silicon Valley” published by HarperCollins. It’s an autobiography that details Martinez career experiences with launching AdGrok, selling it to Twitter, and working at Facebook from its pre-IPO stage.

  • “So, now, as anticipated, the wet noodle’s cancellation countdown has concluded, and Apple loses the rare employee capable of writing a NY Times bestselling book, but retains a handful of yentas who think a book written half a decade ago about different companies is about them, alongside some 2,000 others who are dumb enough to sign it.

Here’s the funny thing, the book was about them.

Now Apple’s cloistered petitioners can continue to pump out mediocrity without their panties bunched.”
