Notable apps and updates: May 11

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

iOS

Drugikat has launched BloksOut 4.0, an update of their retro arcade game in which players crush various blocks, avoid ice bombs from a dozen enemies and bombs from various mini-bosses.

The game gives players an opportunity of playing it in 200 challenging square and round levels, each designed differently. You must keep an eye on the ball, your thumb finger bellow the paddle and crush the blocks and battle your way across awesome levels.

BloksOut requires iOS 12 or later. It’s available free at the Apple App Store.

The Omni Group has announced the OmniFocus 4 TestFlight for iPad and iPhone, a version of its task management software. Anyone can sign up today for the TestFlight by going here.

The upcoming OmniFocus 4 for iPad and iPhone brings a complete user experience redesign. OmniFocus 4 for iPad and iPhone now allows editing task outlines in place and collapsing/expanding items at any level — all with full keyboard support.

In addition, the new version brings some of the more powerful features from OmniFocus for the Mac, like Focus and Quick Open, to the iPad and iPhone experience. OmniFocus 4 will ship as the second product line from the Omni Group available under universal app licensing, which provides full access to OmniFocus across Mac, iPad, iPhone and Apple Watch. Anyone purchasing OmniFocus between now and when OmniFocus 4 ships will automatically receive an upgrade at no additional cost.

OmniFocus 4 for iPad and iPhone TestFlight minimally requires iPadOS 14, iOS 14 and watchOS 7. All Omni apps offer a fully functional 14-day trial. For more information on OmniFocus, visit the company’s website.

macOS

Mosyle, which specializes in modern Apple MDM and security, has introduced what it describes as “several innovations that set the first standard for Apple device security in K-12 schools and address the growing need for education-specific endpoint protection.”

Mosyle Device Scout, Detection & Removal, and App Catalog are the company’s latest offerings that support IT Admins as they deploy, manage and protect Apple devices for students and teachers at K-12 schools across the globe.

The latest updates are designed to bring Apple MDM and endpoint security to a new level in K-12 schools. New Mosyle Manager Premium features include:

  • Device Scout: Providing the first and only tool among any OS to assess and automatically remediate K-12 iOS and macOS devices in accordance with security configuration rules designed by Mosyle’s Security Research Team. These rules take into consideration K-12 deployment and use-case models, achieving the ideal balance of device protection and usage.
  • Detection & Removal: Delivering the first and only endpoint protection feature set integrated within a K-12 product. This feature automatically installs on current and future Apple devices, ensuring devices are immediately protected with their first use by teachers and students.
  • Mosyle App Catalog: Offering a simple and automated method to install and patch non-App Store apps on macOS without the hassle of PKG, scripts, self-hosted solutions and Privacy Permissions (PPPC) granting. The feature eliminates the time-consuming and manual process of managing non-App Store apps for macOS.

Device Scout for iOS, Detection & Removal, and App Catalog are available today to Mosyle Manager Premium subscribers at no extra cost. Device Scout for macOS will be available before Summer 2021 to Mosyle Manager Premium customers free of charge.
