I’m not sure how — or if — this will affect the release of the expected-any-day-now iPad Pro update, but production of some MacBooks and iPads has been postponed due to the global component shortage, according to Nikkei Asia.
The article says that chip shortages have caused delays in a key step in MacBook production, while some iPad assembly has been postponed because of a shortage of displays and display components. As a result of the delay, Apple has pushed back a portion of component orders for the two devices from the first half of this year to the second half, Nikkei Asia says.
If the report is accurate, and there’s no reason to think it’s not, it’s unclear if the anticipated release of Apple Silicon MacBook Pros and iMacs will be delayed. Such laptops and desktop were expected to be unveiled at June’s Worldwide Developer Conference and available shortly thereafter.
Both the MacBook Pros and iMacs are expected to have a major design revamp. The former is expected to be available in 14-inch and 16-inch versions, while the all-in-one desktop is predicted to come with screens of 24 inches and 27 (or even 32) inches.
