Justin Timberlake to play Gong Show host (and CIA assassin?) Chuck Barris for Apple TV+

After starring in the well-received “Palmer” movie, Justin Timberlake is teaming up again with Apple TV+  for an hour-long drama series that will see Timberlake star as former “The Gong Show” host Chuck Barris, according to Deadline.

The untitled series will be based on “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,” a 1984 memoir in which Barris made (to put it mildly) suspect claims that being the Gong Show host and creator of game shows like “The Dating Game” and “The Newlywed Game” was cover for his real job: CIA assassin who took out enemies of the state in the 1960s and 1970s. The book was turned into a film that George Clooney directed with Sam Rockwell playing Barris.

The show is a co-production between Miramax (which released the 2002 film) and Paramount Television Studios.

Apple TV+ is available on the Apple TV app in over 100 countries and regions, on over 1 billion screens, including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch, Mac, select Samsung, LG, Sony, and VIZIO smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV and Roku devices, PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and at tv.apple.com, for US$4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial.
