Aura debuts data-driven, smart air purifiers

Aura Air, an Israel-based startup creating air quality solutions, has released the Aura Air and Aura Air Mini.

Both models feature the company’s Sterionizer that detects, monitors, disinfects and purifies air using bipolar technology that is 99.97% effective in disinfecting viruses, bacteria, mold and other impurities, according to Aviad Shnaiderman, CEO and co-founder of Aura Air. The Aura Air is made for homes and offices, while the Aura Air Mini is ideal for users when traveling or commuting to purify the air around them.

Aura conducted a study with Sheba Medical Center, Israel’s largest hospital, and found that its air purifier, the Aura Air system, has the ability to eliminate virus particles, including the Coronavirus, at a rate of 99.9%, according to Shnaiderman.

He adds the Aura filters and disinfects air in spaces up to 600 square feet through a four-step purification process while monitoring its quality in real time. A pre-filter filters out large particles of dust, pollen, insects and animal hair.

The patented Ray filter consists of three parts: the HEPA 99.98% effective particle filter of 0.3 microns, a carbon layer that absorbs bad odors and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and a Smart Copper Fabric layer that filters viruses, bacteria and more. Shnaiderman says the Sterionizer layer generates positive and negative ions to purify and freshen indoor air. Finally, UVC LEDs neutralize bacteria, viruses and parasites by destroying proteins in the cell membrane.

Aura Air sports plug-and-play set-up, while the Aura app provides real-time monitoring, recommendations on improving air quality and also functions as a carbon monoxide and smoke detector unit. Using a unique air quality assistant, Aura is personalized to the user’s unique needs and health necessities, according to Shnaiderman.

After completing a questionnaire, the Aura device will take action and provide relevant recommendations, customizing the device based on the user’s personal profile. When hazards are detected, Aura alerts users immediately. The app provides intelligence as to the origin of the problem, provides solutions on how to rectify it and sends an alarm if immediate action or evacuation is required.

The Aura Air Mini weighs under one pound and is a portable, rechargeable air purifier that filters and disinfects air through two stages: the pre-filter and Aura’s unique Sterionizer, providing up to six hours of battery life via USB-C charging and recommended for spaces up to 107 square feet.

The Aura Air is available now on auraair.io/shop for US$499. Replacement Ray Filters can be purchased for $69. The travel-friendly, rechargeable Aura Air Mini is also available for $179.99. For more information on Aura Air and Aura Air Mini, please visit auraair.io
