Which counties pay the most (and least) for Apple Music?

Apple Music is available in 167 countries around the globe. However, what users pay for an Apple Music subscription varies widely from country to country – especially when you take the national average salary into account.

A new study by CashNetUSA — state-licensed online lender that offers payday loans, installment loans and line of credit products — compared subscription costs and salaries to find which countries are getting the best deal for Apple Music in 2020. Key findings include:

  • India is the cheapest place for Apple Music in absolute terms, with a subscription of approximately US$1.32.

  • Danish Apple Music costs the most, at $15.50 for an individual monthly subscription.

  • The best deal compared to the local salary is in Bermuda, where a subscription costs $5.99 or 0.07% of the $8,283.33 average paycheck.

  • Niger gets the worst deal, with a subscription ($2.99) costing 11.76% of the average wage ($25.42).

  • Apple Music is cheaper than Spotify in 54 markets, most notably in Costa Rica, where the difference is $3/month.

  • Only five markets have a price difference of more than a dollar per month between Apple Music and Spotify: Sweden, Denmark, Uruguay, Argentina, and Costa Rica.
