‘Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special’ tops Apple TV+ charts in 100 countries

“Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special,” which debuted on Friday, Dec. 4, topped Apple TV+ charts in 100 countries, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Apple doesn’t release stats on its streaming service, but the industry publication based its report on unnamed “sources close to the streaming platform.”

Here’s how Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special is described: “Faced with a holiday cheer crisis, the North Pole knows there’s only one person who can save the day: Santa’s great friend, Mariah Carey. Combining musical performances, dynamic dancing and groundbreaking animation, the undisputed Queen of Christmas jumps into action to create a holiday spectacular to make the whole world merry.”

Guests on the holiday special include Tiffany Haddish, Billy Eichner, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, Misty Copeland and Mykal-Michelle Harris. Carey’s twins, Moroccan and Monroe, will also make an appearance.

“Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special” arrived with a companion soundtrack that was released exclusively on Apple Music on Dec. 4 before hitting other platforms on Friday. It featured new interpretations of some of Carey’s holiday classics, and the album is a bonafide hit, too, scoring scored the largest number of holiday album first-day streams on Apple Music.

The song “Oh Santa!” from the album features the first pairing of Carey with Grande and Hudson and briefly topped the Apple Music charts at No. 1 across the globe. (It has since been displaced by Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You.”) The “Oh Santa!” music video currently has been viewed north of 14.7 million times.

Meanwhile, Carey’s holiday hit, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” is skyrocketing on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, moving to No. 2 this week from last week’s position at No. 14. The song was first released in 1994 and made its way to No. 1 last year, earning Carey her 19th No. 1 single.
