Apple has hired Barbara Whye, who has made a name for herself as Intel’s head of inclusion and diversity, as its new vice president of….inclusion and diversity, reports Fortune.
“An engineer by training and a globally-recognized leader on issues of representation in the technology industry, Barbara has spent 25 years at Intel, helping the company make meaningful and durable positive change,” Kristin Huguet, an Apple spokesperson, said in a written statement to Fortune. “Now, she will bring her immense talents and deep experience to Apple, expanding our companywide effort to hire, develop and retain the world-class talent, at all levels, that reflects the communities we serve.”
Whye made this year’s Fortune Most Powerful Women list. Here’s what the publication has to say about her: “Whye has set a high bar for CDOs. Through her leadership, Intel’s nearly 111,000 person workforce accurately reflects the percentage of women and minorities within the U.S. skilled labor market, a goal Whye accomplished two years ahead of schedule. She’s since been promoted and is working on industrywide standards to track and accelerate inclusion efforts.”
Apple’s last vices president of inclusion and diversity was Christie Smith. She resigned in July.
