Satechi’s first ever GaN charger can streamline your arsenal of chargers

But back to GaN [gallium nitride ] tech; why should you care about GaN charging? Because such chargers are physically smaller than most current chargers as they don’t require as many components as silicon chargers. The material is able to conduct far higher voltages over time than silicon.

Since GaN chargers are more efficient at transferring current, less energy is lost to heat and more energy goes to whatever you’re trying to charge. When components are more efficient at passing energy to your devices, you generally require less of them.

Plus, as it’s equipped with dual USB-C PD ports and a USB-A port, the charger consolidates three adapters and “intelligently” adjusts its power output according to its connected devices – up to, as its name implies, 100W. 

Compatible Apple devices include:the  2020/2019/2018/2017 MacBook Pro, 2020/2018 MacBook Air, 2020/2018 iPad Pro, 2020 iPad Air, iPhone 11 Pro Max/11 Pro/11, XS Max/XS/XR, and more. Some of these devices require an EMark cable for 100W charging; that’s sold separately for around $14 at Amazon.

Charging speeds are:

1 x USB-C PD connected – up to 100W
2 x USB-C PD connected – up to 60W/30W
1 x USB-C PD + 1 x USB-A connected – up to 100W/12W
2 x USB-C PD + 1 x USB-A connected – up to 60W/30W/12W.

The good thing is that Satechi’s 100W USB-C PD Compac GaN Charger won’t cost an arm or leg. It’s reasonably priced at US $79.99, has a one-year manufacturer’s warranty, and is available at Amazon.com and Satechi.net.
