Notable apps and updates, Oct. 12-17

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are this week’s picks.

macOS

Bare Bones Software has released BBEdit 13.5, an update to its professional strength text and code editor. The upgrade runs natively on Apple Silicon, and introduces a Markdown Cheat Sheet, internal performance improvements, support for “rescuing” untitled documents, and numerous additions and refinements designed to improve efficiency.

In all, version 13.5 includes more than 100 new features, refinements to existing features, and fixes to reported issues. At present, only the BBEdit 13.5 app available directly from Bare Bones Software is Universal, while all applications in the Mac App Store currently remain Intel-only.

BBEdit 13.5 requires macOS 10.14.2 or later (macOS 10.14.6 or later Is recommended). A 30-day demo is available for download. At the end of the evaluation period, BBEdit will continue to run in free mode with a permanent feature set that includes its editing capabilities, but not its web authoring tools or other exclusive features. iOS

This week Epson announced the 13-inch SureColor P700 and 17-inch SureColor P900 desktop photo printers. The company also released the new Epson Print Layout software for iOS/iPadOS devices, allowing users to print directly from an iPhone or iPad in a full color managed workflow.

The new compact desktop printers, which replace the SureColor P600 and SureColor P800 respectively, are the first models equipped with a new 10-channel MicroPiezo AMC printhead, with dedicated channels for both Photo and Matte Black ink types, and new UltraChrome PRO10 pigment ink with Violet for an extremely wide color gamut.
