‘No Time to Die’ director to direct ‘Masters of the Air’ episodes for Apple TV+

In his first TV job since winning an Emmy for True Detective and following with the Emma Stone-Justin Hill series Maniac, Cary Joji Fukunaga will direct the first three episodes of Masters of the Air, the Apple TV+ World War II epic limited series from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and Tom Hanks & Gary Goetzman’s Playtone, reports Deadline. This will also be his first directing assignment since helming the James Bond film No Time To Die.

The Masters of the Air limited series is a follow-up to Band of Brothers (pictured) and The Pacific series that were executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. That duo is on board again, “which comes as no surprise given that Spielberg was a prominent figure at the Apple TV Plus launch event in March,” according to Variety.

Masters of the Air is based on the book by Donald L. Miller and follows the story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep. It will air exclusively on Apple TV+. Apple’s Masters production studio will be headed by worldwide video heads Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht.

Deadline adds that Apple is also nearing a first look deal with Fukunaga and Parliament of Owls to develop TV projects, bringing the Beasts of No Nation and Sin Nombre helmer into the Apple fold.
