Norway plans to develop a COVID-19 tracking app based on Apple/Google tech

Norway plans to develop a COVID-19 tracking app based on Apple and Google and Apple technology as part of its efforts to halt the spread of COVID-19, reports Reuters. Norway’s previous app was shut down in June and will be permanently scrapped.

“This app is purely for tracking infection, it doesn’t store data centrally,” Health Minister Bent Hoeie said.

On April 10, Apple and Google announced a joint effort to help governments and health agencies reduce the spread of COVID-19. Both companies released application programming interfaces [APIs] that enable interoperability between iOS and Android devices using apps from public health authorities. These official apps are available for users to download via their respective app stores.
