Notable apps and updates, July 6-11

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are this week’s picks.

macOS

Stellar — which specializes in data recovery, data erasure, and data migration solutions — has introduced a free version of its data recovery software that enables users to recover up to 1GB of data on both macOS and Windows.

The tool recovers lost, corrupted, or deleted documents, email data files, photos, videos and more. It sports an interface that enables users to recover data in three steps, according to Stellar CEO Sunil Chandma. Additional features include the ability to restore files from damaged or corrupt volumes, the ability to retrieve any type of data, from PowerPoint presentations to digital images, the ability to retrieve data from BitLocker Encrypted Drives, and the ability to recover data from formatted, removable media like external drives and USB sticks.

Users can recover up to 1GB of data for free or upgrade to the Standard package for unlimited recovery for US$49.99. Users can also upgrade to the Professional package for $79.99 for additional features such as recovering files from lost partitions, unbootable system recovery support, optical media recovery and more. CS Odessa has introduced a Travel Infographics Solution for ConceptDraw DIAGRAM. It’s designed “to provide professionals who are involved in various kinds of travel and tourism industries with powerful and easy-to-use graphic visualization tools.”

The Travel Infographics Solution contains 14 libraries of vector stencils for design elements of charts, maps, pictures, and infographics. It can be used to create infographics to present travel-related information at a glance.

The Travel Infographics Solution costs US$25 for current users of the latest ConceptDraw DIAGRAM 13 app. It’s available to users of ConceptDraw DIAGRAM 13 and ConceptDraw OFFICE v6.

ConceptDraw DIAGRAM can exchange documents with Microsoft Visio on both macOS and Windows operating platforms. It can open and save files that can be used by Visio (VSD, VDX, and VSDX documents) users. It retails for $199 per end user license. ConceptDraw DIAGRAM 13 is now included in ConceptDraw OFFICE 6, which retails for $499 USD.

iOS

Lugelo Inc. has launched the Lugelo app for journal or daily diary writers. The social network-based website Lugelo lets their users write and share their daily life.

The free online journal is designed specifically for parents, organizations and travelers. It lets them document their experiences, lifestyle and events and easily share within their network with Lugelo. They can create a customized timeline with moments, according to Musa Mawanda, CEO of Lugelo Inc.

The Doughboy Foundation has rolled out the WWI Virtual Explorer App in cooperation with the United States World War One Centennial Commission.

The free app allows users to take a virtual field trip to the National WWI Memorial being built in Washington DC. Developed by the Doughboy Foundation, a 501c(3) not for profit foundation under an education grant from Walmart, the mobile device App places a scaled version of the entire 1.8-acre WWI Memorial anywhere including backyards, driveways, living rooms, and more.

The virtual Memorial is filled with WWI explorations and discoveries including video game style 3D stories and over 50 videos integrated into the 3D space. Together they present various aspects of WWI, “The War that Changed the World”.

AppTek has announced two new speech technology applications designed for consumers — AppTek Speech Translate and AppTek Speech Transcribe. They’re available through the Apple App Store for free for a limited time.

With both AppTek Speech Translate and AppTek Speech Transcribe, users can communicate in real-time with others through a variety of languages, including Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese Mandarin, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Pashto, Persian Russian, Spanish or Turkish. Using AppTek’s unmatched AI technology, users of both apps can also access a variety of dialects, including twelve Arabic, two French, three Spanish, five English, two Swiss German, and two Portuguese dialects.

AppTek Speech Translate is a two-way speech communication application that offers conversational real-time streaming speech-to-speech translation using the latest in artificial intelligence and machine learning for Neural Machine Translation, Automatic Speech Recognition and Text-to-Speech technologies. AppTek Speech Transcribe is designed to simplify the transcription experience for consumers while providing superior accuracy. With the app, users have a fast, easy, and reliable way to transcribe voice memos, lectures, meetings, interviews and other spoken audio content into text in real-time across 17 different languages.
