Finland’s Nokia has launched a set of tools for data center networking, developed in cooperation with Apple, to help companies to manage the growth in traffic as 5G and machine learning technologies roll out, according to Reuters.
“We worked very closely with (Apple) over the last two plus years to understand their requirements,” Steve Vogelsang, Nokia’s chief technology officer for IP and optical business, told the publication.
Nokia’s new tools are designed to assist firms running big data centers, known as hyperscalers, such as Amazon, Alphabet Inc’s Google, Microsoft . and Facebook. The products will help them scale up resources swiftly, according to Reuters.
Apple will deploy Nokia’s new system in its data centre in Viborg, Denmark.
The number of hyperscale data centers now exceeds 500 with more than 150 new facilities on the way, according to Synergy Research Group. Hyperscale operators accounted for 33% of all spending on data center hardware and software in the first three quarters of 2019, up from 26% in 2017 and an increase from 15% in 2015.
