Apple will “significantly” increase its new MacBook Pro orders in late third-quarter 2020 and will see its overall laptop shipments rise over 20% sequentially in the third quarter, according to DigiTimes (a subscription is required to read the entire article), quoting unnamed “sources from the upstream supply chain.”
The report adds that Apple shipped 3.2-3.5 million Mac laptops in the second quarter of 2020 with volumes are expected to grow to around four million units in the third quarter. Also, the tech giant has said it would release the first Macs based on “Apple Silicon” before the end of the year. It’s expected that they would include a 13-inch MacBook Pro and 13-inch MacBook Air (and possibly a 24-inch iMac).
Apple Silicon is, per Apple, “world-class custom silicon to deliver industry-leading performance and powerful new technologies.” It involves customized ARM technology, as well as Apple’s own System on a Chip.
