Apple TV+ series, specials nab 18 Emmy nominations

Yesterday Apple won two Daytime Emmy awards for its Ghostwriter and Peanuts in Space children’s series. Today, during the announcement of the (non-Daytime) Emmys, Apple TV+ shows nabbed 18 nominations. That’s a first for a streaming service in its first year.

The Morning Show had eight nominations. Its “In the Dark Night of the Soul It’s Always 3:30 in the Morning” was nominated for “Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour Or More).” Steve Carell was nominated for “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.” Jennifer Aniston was nominated for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.” Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass were both nominated for “Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series.”

Martin Short was nominated for “Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.” Mim Leder was notated for “Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.” The Morning Show also received nods for “Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program” and “Outstanding Main Title Design.”

The Beastie Boys Story documentary was nominated for five Emmys. Nods were for “Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special,” “Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Nonfiction Or Reality Program (Single or Multi-Camera),” “Outstanding Sound Editing for a Nonfiction or Reality Program,” “Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program,” and “Outstanding Writing For A Nonfiction Program.”

Defending Jacob ’s “After” episode was nominated for “Outstanding Cinematography For A Limited Series Or Movie” and “Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.” Other nominations include:

° Leslie Odom as Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for “Owen” in the animated series, Central Park.

° Home for “Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary Series or Special.”

° Chiwetel Ejiofor for “Outstanding Narrator” for The Elephant Queen.

° Apple’s “Bounce” ad as “Outstanding Commercial.”

Today’s Emmy nominations mean Apple TV+ has landed a total of 25 awards wins and accolades, and 95 awards nominations since its global launch. In addition to the the Daytime Emmy Award wins, The Morning Show has been honored with a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for Jennifer Aniston, and a Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Billy Crudup.

The series has also earned three Golden Globe Award nominations just shortly after its premiere, which has never been done before by a new streaming service, and was nominated for Outstanding New Program by the Television Critics Association this year. Globally, the series has been nominated for a TV Choice Award for Best New Drama.
