In a note to clients — as noted by MacRumors — Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the tech giant will debut new entry-level AirPods with a form factor design similar to the AirPods Pro in the first half of 2021. He says they’ll incorporate SiP tech to integrate the earbuds’ audio features into the smaller casing.
Introduced in October 2019, the AirPods Pro (pictured) are described by Apple as featuring “Active Noise Cancellation and superior, immersive sound in an all-new lightweight, in-ear design.” They sport flexible ear tips with a vent system to equalize pressure and minimize discomfort.
The current AirPods lineup includes second-generation AirPods with a wired charging case for US$159, second-generation AirPods with a wireless charging case for $199, and AirPods Pro with a wireless charging case for $249.
The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) says Kuo’s prediction is spot on as there’s no reason to doubt it. And the design tweak makes perfect sense.
